Connecticut Higher Education Organizations Recognize That Budgeting and Fiscal Controls Are ‘Mission Critical’

July 31, 2012 – XLerant Inc.,  the leading provider of budgeting software for colleges and universities, has announced that the University of Saint Joseph in Connecticut has selected BudgetPak™ to manage its budgeting and forecasting needs. The University of Saint Joseph joins Quinnipiac University as Connecticut-based colleges that have upgraded their budgeting software to XLerant’s BudgetPak software.

“We are pleased to have selected XLerant for our budgeting needs” says William Hawkins, the associate vice president for finance and controller at The University of St. Joseph. “XLerant has the experience in budget preparation in the college and university market with similar institutions. This was an important factor in our decision.”

“We are excited about working with the University of Saint Joseph,” said Lawrence Serven, co-founder of XLerant. “Along with XLerant’s other higher education clients, the University of Saint Joseph is a highly respected institution, and we’re honored to have been selected.”

XLerant’s budgeting application, BudgetPak, is unique in the way it replaces traditional budget templates and spreadsheet commands with a TurboTax-like interface for budgeting – making it easy for everyone to use. Improved collaboration, greater ownership of the numbers and increased transparency enable faculty and staff to better manage their business.

The staff at the University of Saint Joseph had looked at a variety of financial applications over the past two years, but decided budgeting was a mission-critical process that needed to be addressed first in order to provide a firm foundation for developing long-term sustainability and transparent accountability.

“All of our higher ed clients understand the need for tight fiscal controls and transparent accountability, especially in financially challenging times, when many school endowments are down. XLerant helps companies and organizations control costs, instill fiscal discipline and manage profitability. It has become the standard in the education sector,” Serven continued.

The University of Saint Joseph offers a wide range of graduate, undergraduate, and certificate programs that combine a professional and liberal arts degree with a focus on service. Enhanced by the Catholic intellectual tradition and the values of its founding Sisters of Mercy, the university allows students to thrive in a culture of achievement and collaboration. Undergraduate programs for women and for coeducational adult students include more than 22 majors and six pre-professional programs. Coeducational graduate master’s and doctoral degree programs are taught on the University’s two main campuses in West Hartford and Hartford, Connecticut; at off-campus locations throughout the state; and online.

XLerant vice president of sales Sal Arena noted, “While working with the University of Saint Joseph staff, we appreciated the fact that they were keenly aware of the need to improve financial controls while providing increased flexibility for their faculty and staff involved in the budgeting process.”

“BudgetPak is perfect for the university market,” said Ted Dacko, chief executive officer of XLerant. “These institutions are under financial stress, and BudgetPak offers the perfect solution for the needs of this sector.” Dacko added, “Plus, as a company that has received investment funding from Connecticut Innovations, we are pleased to be helping Connecticut-based institutions.”
