NFL Franchise Recognizes That Budgeting Is Mission Critical

September 11, 2012 – XLerant Inc., the leading provider of budgeting software, has announced that the Dallas Cowboys in Texas have selected BudgetPak™ to manage their budgeting and forecasting needs.

“XLerant’s BudgetPak had exactly the functionality that we needed as a diverse organization. It will help us achieve better participation in the budget process and better ownership of the numbers by our department heads,” said Dale Knox, Director of Accounting for the Dallas Cowboys. “Plus, it has everything that we in finance need and gets us out of the business of programming and managing data in Excel. XLerant also seemed to be a company of extraordinary integrity. That trust factor had a great deal of appeal to us,” Knox added.

“We are thrilled to have a world class organization like the Cowboys as a customer,” said Lawrence Serven, co-founder of XLerant. “This is certainly a brand name that makes us proud and that provides even further motivation to make them a happy reference customer.”

XLerant’s budgeting application, BudgetPak, is unique in the way it replaces traditional budget templates and spreadsheet commands with a TurboTax-like interface for budgeting, making it easy for everyone to use. Improved collaboration, greater ownership of the numbers and increased transparency enable department heads to better manage their business.

The staff at the Cowboys had been using Microsoft Excel for budgeting and believed that the organization had outgrown the functionality and was concerned by the amount of time it was taking to manage data and keep the spreadsheets current.

“All of our customers understand the need to improve user ownership of the numbers and the need to deal with the individual needs of diverse areas within the organization. But equally important is the fact that financial professionals don’t want to be maintaining these spreadsheets any longer,” Serven continued.

The Dallas Cowboys are comprised of the football team, the stadium, events, merchandizing and the cheerleaders. The organization is known as “America’s Team” and is one of the best known sports franchises in the world.

“BudgetPak is a good fit for organizations like the Cowboys,” said Ted Dacko, chief executive officer of XLerant. “These organizations need a broad range of functionality but need to make sure that the department heads can use the software and own the numbers.”
